Accident Prevention Effort (APE) Tool
What is it?
The Accident Prevention Effort (APE) feature allows the organization to quantify, measure, and benchmark proactive efforts completed to improve safety within the organization.
The APE looks at certain activities in the portal, tallies the number of times that activity has been completed in a month and multiplies it by a Quantifiable Effect (QE) score. The result is the APE score for that item.
As the organization continues to increase the number of proactive activities, the aggregate APE score will increase. If the score decreases for any reason, the organization will have the opportunity to determine why and implement actions to again increase the APE score.

What activities are automatically tracked?
Safety Objectives with Measurement: The organization will receive the QE score for each documented objective that also has an associated measurement against the objective. The QE score for this is 2.
- Safety Objectives with Measurement can be created in the Safety Performance Monitoring feature.
- Hazard with Consequences: The organization will receive the QE score for each hazard documented in the Hazards feature that has an associated consequence(s). This is to help ensure the organization is not simply listing hazards identified, but is taking steps to see how the hazard could manifest in their particular operations. The QE score for this is 2.
- Hazard Reports Submitted: For each hazard (safety) report submitted by the organization, the QE score will be applied. The QE score for this is 1.
- Audits Submitted: For each audit completed and submitted, the organization will receive the QE score associated with this item. The QE score for this is 4.
- Hazard Reports Closed: For every submitted report that has been closed, the organization will receive the QE score for each. The QE score for this is 3.
Emergency Response: For every emergency response drill conducted, the organization will receive the QE score for this item. The QE score for this is 6.
- Organization must be subscribed to the Emergency Response Alert feature to receive this QE score.
How are the QE scores derived?
The QE scores have been set by Baldwin and derived through Safety Manager interviews.
How often does APE data update?
APE data updates daily. Any new metrics may not appear immediately, but should appear the following day.
